The Power Behind CES 2011

Palladium’s sales and marketing team recently returned from Las Vegas where they got a first-hand look at the next generation of electronic devices at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show.  Our team was in good company – more than 140,000 attendees made the trek to Nevada to peruse more than 20,000 must-have gadgets.

The Las Vegas show floors were buzzing with the latest consumer products ranging from charging solutions to portable handheld tablets to smart phones and 3D TV’s.  Many of the new portable products touted sleeker designs, improved performance, more interface options and greater portability; and almost every portable device was equipped with primary or secondary battery power.

The correlation between high performance and battery life was apparent as OEMs attempt to cater to consumer desires for lighter, smaller devices, but at the same time, the devices must exhibit increased performance capabilities. As we all know, these capabilities quickly drain battery life. For example, for many of the new, high performance and feature rich tablets shown at the show, the power requirements will be significant. They now have USB ports, video/audio connections, card slots, etc. that all put a strain on battery life.  In addition to advanced control circuitry to help mitigate power drain, most products were equipped with lithium-ion technology to meet performance needs and consumer demand.
